It’s a wrap on Ducktown CDC’s Bengali New Year Event! We’re so glad to have had so many people come out April 30th to the Stockton Arts Garage to help celebrate the Pohela Boishakh. Special thanks to our sponsors below:

  • Fulton Bank

  • Park Bank

  • Atlantic County Economic Alliance

  • Stockton Arts Garage

  • Atlantic City Arts Foundation

This event was also supported in part by a grant from the NJ Department of State, Division of Travel and Tourism.

We're still buzzing with the vibrant energy and joyous spirit of the festival, and we wanted to take a moment to thank you all for making it such a resounding success.

We kicked off the event with some musical performances by Asif Anwar and Joyanta Sinha, followed by some introductions and a few speeches from our Ducktown Staff (Michael Cagno and Sarah Serneabad). Thank you to the Bangladeshi Association of South Jersey (BASJ President: Mohammed Zahirul Islam and BASJ Secretary: Zakirul Islam), the Bangladeshi Association of Atlantic County (BAAC President: Mohammed Shahid Khan), and the Greater Barisal Society, Solaiman Serneabad (Former Secretary General of BASJ) and Nargis Serneabad, for attending and giving a few words of commemoration.

We had beautiful singing performances by Asif Anwar and Joyanta Sinha who sang Bengali folk songs and Erfan Chowdhury (Bengali Student Association of Stockton University). Their voices and instruments truly brought the festive atmosphere to life. We were also treated to the graceful and expressive dance of Khadija Kobra, a beautiful testament to Bengali culture and celebrations

We also like to thank our volunteers who helped set up for the event and Maharajah Restaurant in Egg Harbor Township who provided catering of our delicious bengali cuisine. Of course, no Pohela Boishakh celebration is complete without a feast, and we were delighted to share a delicious array of traditional Bengali cuisine with everyone. From savory delights to sweet treats, it was wonderful to see so many enjoying the flavors of our heritage.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our vendors: Sabah’s Collection who sold many beautiful collections of salwar kameez, Sadia Lera the henna artist, and Ali Grocery who brought the fun with their toy market, Ramisa and Rodni Dedar for their fantastic festival face painting, which brought smiles and colorful artistry to many faces. It was truly heartwarming to see everyone embracing the spirit of the festival and creating wonderful memories together.

And a special thank you to the Ducktown CDC Block Captains, Stockton student Sarah Serneabad,
Stockton Alum Kaysey Nguyen for organizing the event, and Miko Beach. Finally, to Noyes
Museum’s special events leader, Sarah Lacy.

Thank you once again for your enthusiastic participation and for making our Pohela Boishakh celebration so special. Your presence and joyful energy are what made the event truly unforgettable.

We look forward to celebrating many more such occasions with you in the future!

Shubho Noboborsho!
